Asset Tracker Installation Guide

The RouteMate Asset Tracker is a battery-powered GPS device designed for safeguarding cargo, tracking valuable equipment, and ensuring asset security. Its internal battery enables continued tracking even when an asset is detached or stolen.

Note: Set up and configure the device in the RouteMate web app before mounting it. Contact your fleet manager or the RouteMate support team to add the device in the web app settings.

Mounting Locations

The Asset Tracker is equipped with a magnetic mounting bracket. It can be installed on all types of vehicles and assets, but the bracket must be attached to a surface where it will not be exposed to light — otherwise the light tamper alert will trigger unnecessarily.

Mount the tracking device as high in the vehicle as possible, with the LEDs and Power Button facing upward toward the roof of the vehicle.

Truck Mounting Locations

Inside the dashboard
Under the driver’s or passenger’s seat
Inside the glove box
On the back of the cab (exterior)

Device Setup Tips

Use a strong neodymium magnetic mount.
Position the tracker where it has a clear view of the sky for strong GPS reception.
Avoid metal enclosures unless there is a plastic or fiberglass surface above for signal penetration.
Ensure at least 50% metal contact for secure attachment.

Important: To preserve battery life, install the device properly. Poor installation can drain the battery significantly.

Mounting

The device uses a magnetic bracket only — screw mounting is not supported.

The magnetic bracket does not require screws.
It can be placed anywhere, but the bracket surface must face away from light to prevent false light-tamper alerts.

Powering Up the Asset Tracker

Press and hold the Power Button for 5 seconds until both the green and blue LEDs turn on.
To preserve battery life, both LEDs will turn off once the device has acquired cell and GPS connections.

Recovery Mode

When you activate Recovery Mode, the device sends its location at every start and stop point, as well as whenever you request the location.

Disclaimer: After recovery is completed, switch the device back to default mode. Activating recovery mode will void the warranty.

The web app includes an activity log that records who performed which command, giving you full transparency and accountability over admin actions.
