Assets and Trailers

Beyond your motorized vehicles, your fleet likely includes trailers, containers, and other non-motorized equipment that you need to track. The Assets page gives you a single place to manage and monitor all of these units.

What Are Assets?

In RouteMate, assets refer to non-motorized equipment associated with your fleet. Common examples include:

Trailers — Dry vans, flatbeds, reefers, tankers, and other trailer types.
Containers — Shipping containers and intermodal units.
Non-motorized equipment — Chassis, dollies, generators, and other unpowered equipment that moves with your fleet.

Assets are tracked separately from vehicles because they do not have their own engines or ELD devices, but they are just as important to your operations.

Viewing Your Asset Inventory

When you navigate to the Assets page under Units, you will see a complete list of all registered assets. Each entry shows a summary including the asset’s name, type, and current status.

Use the search bar or filters to narrow the list by asset type, status, or other criteria.

Tip: Keeping your asset inventory current ensures accurate reporting and helps dispatchers assign the right equipment to the right loads.

Asset Details

Select any asset from the list to view its full details, including:

Asset ID — The unique identifier for the asset in RouteMate.
Asset Type — The category of equipment (trailer, container, etc.).
License Plate — If applicable, the plate number and jurisdiction.
Make / Model / Year — Manufacturer details for the asset.
Current Status — Whether the asset is active, assigned, or inactive.
Assigned Vehicle — If the asset is currently coupled with a vehicle, that relationship is shown here.

GPS Tracking for Assets

If your assets are equipped with GPS tracking devices, you can monitor their locations in real time directly from the asset detail page.

Real-time location — See the asset’s current position on the map.
Movement history — Review where the asset has been over a selected time period.
Geofence alerts — Get notified if an asset enters or leaves a defined geographic area.

Note: GPS tracking for assets requires a compatible tracking device to be installed on the asset. If you do not see location data for an asset, confirm that a tracker is properly installed and active.

Asset Utilization

Understanding how your assets are being used helps you make smarter decisions about your fleet. The asset detail page provides utilization information such as:

Assignment history — See which vehicles and drivers have been paired with the asset over time.
Trip history — View completed trips where the asset was in use.
Idle time — Identify assets that are sitting unused so you can reassign or retire them.

Tip: Reviewing asset utilization regularly can help you right-size your fleet and avoid unnecessary equipment costs.
