Reporting Defects

After starting your DVIR inspection, you need to document the condition of your vehicle and any trailers. If everything looks good, you can mark the vehicle as having no defects. If you find issues, RouteMate makes it easy to report them with details and photos.

If Your Vehicle Is in Good Condition

If you have completed your walk-around inspection and everything checks out:

Select No Defects (or the equivalent option) for the vehicle.
If you have trailers attached, repeat for each trailer.

That is all you need to do — you can proceed to sign your inspection.

Tip: Even when there are no defects, take your inspection seriously. A thorough check before each trip protects you and other drivers on the road.

Adding Defects

If you find an issue during your inspection:

On the inspection screen, look for the option to Add Defect.
You will see a predefined list of common defect categories (such as brakes, tires, lights, mirrors, coupling devices, and more).
Tap the category that matches the issue you found.
Select the specific defect from the list.
The defect will be added to your inspection report.

You can add as many defects as needed — simply repeat the process for each issue you discover.

Taking Photos of Defects

Documenting defects with photos provides clear evidence of the issue:

After adding a defect, look for the option to Add Photo or the camera icon next to the defect.
Choose to take a new photo with your camera or select an existing image from your gallery.
The photo will be attached to that specific defect in your report.

Tip: Take clear, well-lit photos that show the defect clearly. If the issue is a crack, leak, or worn component, try to get a close-up shot as well as a wider shot showing where it is located on the vehicle.

Adding Trailer Defects

If you have one or more trailers attached, you can inspect and report defects for each trailer separately:

On the inspection screen, look for the trailer section.
Select the trailer you want to inspect.
Follow the same process — mark as no defects, or add defects from the predefined list.
Attach photos as needed.

Note: If you are pulling multiple trailers, you will need to report on each one individually. Make sure you select the correct trailer when adding defects.

Removing a Defect Added by Mistake

If you added a defect in error (for example, you tapped the wrong item):

Find the defect in your inspection list.
Tap the remove or delete option next to the defect.
Confirm the removal when prompted.

The defect and any associated photos will be removed from the current inspection.

Note: You can only remove defects before signing the inspection. Once the DVIR is signed and saved, it becomes part of your official record.
