Asset Tracking
In addition to your motorized vehicles, RouteMate lets you track the location of trailers and other non-motorized assets that are equipped with GPS tracking devices. The Asset Tracking page gives you real-time visibility into where your assets are and where they have been.
GPS Tracking for Trailers and Non-Motorized Assets
Section titled “GPS Tracking for Trailers and Non-Motorized Assets”Unlike vehicles that report their location through an ELD device, trailers and other non-motorized assets rely on standalone GPS tracking devices. Once a compatible tracker is installed and activated, the asset’s location data flows into RouteMate automatically.
Assets you can track include:
- Trailers (dry vans, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, etc.)
- Containers and intermodal units
- Chassis, dollies, and other unpowered equipment
- Generators and other portable equipment
Note: Asset tracking requires a compatible GPS tracking device to be installed on the asset. If an asset does not show location data, verify that the tracker is properly installed, powered, and has cellular connectivity.
Real-Time Asset Location on the Map
Section titled “Real-Time Asset Location on the Map”The Asset Tracking map displays the current position of all GPS-equipped assets in your fleet.
How to view asset locations:
Section titled “How to view asset locations:”- Navigate to Location Data and then Asset Tracking.
- The map will show pins for all assets that are currently reporting their position.
- Click on any asset pin to view a summary including:
- Asset name and ID.
- Asset type (trailer, container, etc.).
- Last reported location and time.
- Current status (stationary or in motion).
- Use the asset list panel to search for a specific asset or filter by type.
Tip: Knowing where your trailers are in real time helps dispatchers make faster decisions about load assignments and reduces the time spent searching for equipment at yards and customer sites.
Asset Movement History
Section titled “Asset Movement History”You can review the complete movement history of any tracked asset to understand where it has been over a given period.
How to view asset movement history:
Section titled “How to view asset movement history:”- From the Asset Tracking page, select an asset.
- Choose the date range you want to review.
- The map will display the asset’s movement path for the selected period, including:
- Locations where the asset was stationary.
- Routes traveled between stops.
- Timestamps for each position update.
Movement history is helpful for:
- Verifying delivery timelines — Confirm when a trailer arrived at or departed from a location.
- Monitoring dwell time — See how long an asset sat at a customer site, yard, or other location.
- Detecting unauthorized movement — Identify if an asset was moved without authorization.
- Recovering lost equipment — Track down assets that have not been accounted for.
Tip: Pair asset tracking data with geofence alerts to get automatic notifications when a trailer arrives at or departs from key locations like your yard, customer facilities, or maintenance shops.
