Fuel Summary
The Fuel Summary page gives you a high-level overview of fuel consumption, efficiency, and costs across your fleet. Use it to identify trends, spot anomalies, and make data-driven decisions about how to reduce your fuel expenses.
Note: The Fuel Summary feature requires the Fuel module to be activated for your account. If you do not see this option in your navigation menu, contact your administrator or RouteMate support to enable it.
Fleet Fuel Consumption Overview
Section titled “Fleet Fuel Consumption Overview”The Fuel Summary page presents your fleet’s fuel usage in an easy-to-read dashboard format. At a glance, you can see:
- Total fuel consumed — The total gallons (or liters) used by your fleet over the selected period.
- Total fuel cost — How much your fleet spent on fuel during the selected period.
- Number of fuel transactions — How many fuel purchases were recorded.
- Vehicles fueled — How many vehicles had fuel purchases during the period.
Charts and graphs help you visualize consumption trends over time, making it easy to spot increases or decreases in fuel usage.
Fuel Efficiency Metrics
Section titled “Fuel Efficiency Metrics”Understanding how efficiently your vehicles use fuel is key to controlling costs. The Fuel Summary provides efficiency metrics including:
- Miles per gallon (MPG) — The average fuel efficiency for your fleet and for individual vehicles.
- Gallons per mile — An alternative efficiency metric useful for heavier vehicles.
- Fuel consumption by vehicle — A breakdown showing which vehicles are using the most fuel.
- Efficiency trends — How fuel efficiency has changed over time for your fleet as a whole.
Tip: Compare fuel efficiency across similar vehicles in your fleet. If one truck is getting significantly worse mileage than an identical unit, it may have a mechanical issue, tire pressure problem, or aggressive driver behavior contributing to higher consumption…
Cost Analysis
Section titled “Cost Analysis”The cost analysis section helps you understand where your fuel dollars are going:
- Cost per mile — Your average fuel cost for each mile driven.
- Cost per vehicle — Total fuel spending broken down by individual vehicle.
- Cost trends — How your fuel costs have changed over time, accounting for both consumption and fuel price fluctuations.
- Highest-cost vehicles — Quickly identify the vehicles that are costing you the most in fuel.
Tip: Use cost analysis data to build a business case for fleet improvements like route optimization, driver training programs, or vehicle upgrades that could reduce fuel expenses.
Filtering by Vehicle and Date Range
Section titled “Filtering by Vehicle and Date Range”You can customize the Fuel Summary view to focus on exactly what you need:
By Vehicle
Section titled “By Vehicle”- Select a specific vehicle to see its individual fuel summary.
- Compare multiple vehicles side by side.
- View fleet-wide totals with the default “All Vehicles” selection.
By Date Range
Section titled “By Date Range”- Choose from preset ranges like last 7 days, last 30 days, or last quarter.
- Set a custom date range for any period you need to analyze.
Combining vehicle and date range filters lets you drill down into specific scenarios — for example, reviewing one vehicle’s fuel costs for the past month, or comparing your entire fleet’s consumption across two different quarters.
