Starting a Vehicle Inspection (DVIR)

A DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) is a federally required inspection that you must complete before and after your trips. It documents the condition of your vehicle and any trailers, helping ensure everything is safe to operate on the road.

What Is a DVIR?

FMCSA regulations require commercial vehicle drivers to inspect their vehicle at the beginning and end of each day. The DVIR is the official report of that inspection. It covers key components of your truck and trailer, and it records whether any defects were found.

There are two types:

Pre-Trip — Completed before you start driving for the day.
Post-Trip — Completed after you finish driving for the day.

Accessing DVIR

Tap the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner of the app.
Select DVIR from the menu list.
You will see a list of your past inspections, showing the date, type, and whether defects were reported.

From this screen, you can review any previous inspection or start a new one.

Viewing Past Inspections

The inspection list shows your completed DVIRs in reverse chronological order (most recent first). Each entry displays:

The date and time of the inspection
Whether it was a Pre-Trip or Post-Trip inspection
A summary indicating if defects were found or if the vehicle was reported in good condition

Tap any past inspection to view its full details, including defect descriptions and photos.

Starting a New Inspection

To begin a new DVIR:

1. Make Sure You Are in On Duty Status

You must be in On Duty status to perform a vehicle inspection. If you are currently in a different status, the app will offer to switch you to On Duty automatically.

Note: The time spent performing your inspection counts as On Duty time on your daily log.

2. Select the Inspection Type

Choose whether this is a:

Pre-Trip inspection (before you start driving)
Post-Trip inspection (after you finish driving)

3. Review Vehicle Information

Your vehicle information will be auto-populated based on the vehicle assigned to you. This includes:

Vehicle ID — Your truck’s unit number
VIN — The Vehicle Identification Number

Verify that the information matches the vehicle you are actually inspecting.

4. Enter Odometer Reading

Enter the current odometer reading for the vehicle. This field is required.

Tip: Read the odometer carefully and enter the exact number. Accurate odometer readings help your carrier track mileage and schedule maintenance.

5. Enter Your Location

Type in your current location. This field is required and must be between 5 and 60 characters long. A city and state (for example, “Dallas, TX”) is typically sufficient.

Once you have filled in these details, you are ready to proceed to the inspection checklist where you will note the condition of the vehicle and report any defects.
