Safety Alerts
Safety alerts are real-time notifications generated by cameras installed in your fleet vehicles. When the camera system detects a potentially dangerous event, an alert is created in the Safety Hub so you can review it, investigate the details, and take appropriate action.
Types of Camera-Triggered Alerts
Section titled “Types of Camera-Triggered Alerts”RouteMate cameras can detect and alert you to a wide range of safety-related events, including:
| Alert Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Hard Braking | The driver applied the brakes suddenly and aggressively. |
| Collision Detection | The camera detected an impact or potential collision event. |
| Distracted Driving | The driver was looking away from the road for an extended period. |
| Driver Fatigue | The camera detected signs of drowsiness, such as repeated eye closure. |
| No Seatbelt | The driver was not wearing a seatbelt while the vehicle was in motion. |
| Phone Use | The driver was using a handheld phone while driving. |
Note: The specific alert types available to you depend on your camera hardware and configuration. Not all camera models support every detection type.
Alert Severity Levels
Section titled “Alert Severity Levels”Each safety alert is assigned a severity level to help you prioritize your review:
- Critical — Requires immediate attention. These are the most serious events, such as collisions or repeated dangerous behavior.
- High — Significant safety concern that should be reviewed promptly.
- Medium — Notable event worth reviewing but not urgent.
- Low — Minor event for awareness and record-keeping.
Tip: Focus your daily review on Critical and High severity alerts first. You can review Medium and Low alerts during weekly safety reviews to identify trends.
Reviewing and Investigating Alerts
Section titled “Reviewing and Investigating Alerts”To review a safety alert:
- Navigate to Safety Hub and then Safety Alerts.
- You will see a list of recent alerts sorted by time, with the newest alerts at the top.
- Click on any alert to open its detail view.
- On the detail page, you can:
- Watch the video clip associated with the event.
- View event details including the date, time, location, vehicle, and driver.
- See the event on a map showing exactly where the incident occurred.
- Add notes to document your review findings or coaching actions.
- Mark the alert as reviewed so your team knows it has been addressed.
Tip: When investigating an alert, watch the video clip first before forming conclusions. Camera footage often provides important context that raw data alone cannot convey.
Alert History
Section titled “Alert History”All safety alerts are stored in your alert history, giving you a complete record over time. You can use the alert history to:
- Filter by date range to review alerts from a specific period.
- Filter by vehicle or driver to focus on a particular unit or individual.
- Filter by alert type to analyze specific categories of events (e.g., all distracted driving alerts).
- Filter by severity to focus on the most serious events.
- Export alert data for use in safety meetings, reports, or compliance documentation.
Having a thorough alert history is invaluable for tracking safety improvements and demonstrating your fleet’s commitment to safe operations.
