Trips

The Trips page provides a detailed record of every journey made by your fleet vehicles, as captured by the ELD device. Trip records are essential for tracking vehicle utilization, verifying driver activity, and maintaining an accurate history of fleet operations.

What Are ELD Trips?

An ELD trip is a recorded journey that begins when a vehicle starts moving and ends when it comes to a stop for a defined period. The ELD device automatically logs the trip, capturing key data points throughout the journey including start and end times, locations, mileage, and the route taken.

Trips are created automatically — drivers do not need to manually start or stop them. This ensures that every journey is captured without relying on driver input.

Viewing Trip Records

How to view trips:

Navigate to ELD Events and then Trips.
You will see a list of all recorded trips across your fleet, with the most recent trips at the top.
Each entry in the list shows a summary including:
- Vehicle — The vehicle that made the trip.
- Driver — The driver assigned to the vehicle during the trip.
- Date — When the trip occurred.
- Start time and end time — When the journey began and ended.
- Start location and end location — Where the trip started and where it finished.
Click on any trip to view its full details and route on the map.

Trip Details

When you open an individual trip, you can see comprehensive information about the journey:

Duration — The total time from start to finish.
Distance — The total miles (or kilometers) traveled during the trip.
Start location — The address or coordinates where the trip began.
End location — The address or coordinates where the trip ended.
Route — The path the vehicle traveled, displayed on a map. You can zoom in and follow the route to see exactly where the vehicle went.
Average speed — The vehicle’s average speed during the trip.
Maximum speed — The highest speed recorded during the trip.
Idle time — Time spent with the engine running but the vehicle stationary.

Tip: Reviewing trip details regularly helps you identify inefficiencies like excessive idling, off-route driving, or unnecessarily long trips. These insights can help you optimize routes and reduce fuel costs.

Filtering Trips

Use the available filters to find specific trips quickly:

By Vehicle

Select one or more vehicles from the dropdown to see only trips for those units. This is useful when you want to review the activity of a specific vehicle over time.

By Date Range

Set a start date and end date to view trips from a specific period. You can look at a single day, a week, a month, or any custom range.

Combined Filters

Combine vehicle and date range filters to get a precise view — for example, all trips for Vehicle 101 during the past week.

Note: Trip data is available going back as far as your account’s data retention period. If you need older trip records, contact RouteMate support.
