Map Overview

The interactive map is the centerpiece of the RouteMate dashboard. It gives you a real-time, bird’s-eye view of every vehicle in your fleet so you can see where your drivers are, what they are doing, and how your operations are moving — all at a glance.

Real-Time Vehicle Locations

When you open the dashboard, the map displays markers for every vehicle in your fleet that has an active ELD or GPS device. Each marker represents one vehicle and updates in real time as the vehicle moves.

The map automatically adjusts to show all your vehicles. If your fleet is spread across the country, you will see a wide view. If all your trucks are in one region, the map zooms in accordingly.

Vehicle Marker Status Colors

Each vehicle marker is color-coded so you can instantly tell what the vehicle is doing:

Color	Status	What It Means
Green	In Motion	The vehicle is currently moving
Yellow	Idling	The engine is running but the vehicle is stationary
Blue	Stationary	The vehicle is parked with the engine off
Gray	Disconnected	The ELD or GPS device has lost connection

Tip: Keep an eye on gray (disconnected) markers. A disconnected vehicle may indicate an ELD issue that needs attention.

Map Layers

RouteMate offers map layers you can toggle on or off to add more context to your view:

Bird’s Eye View — Switch between standard road map and satellite/aerial imagery to see the terrain and surroundings of your vehicles.
Weather Overlay — Turn on the weather layer to see current weather conditions (rain, snow, storms) along your fleet’s routes. This is helpful for anticipating delays or adverse driving conditions.

To toggle layers, look for the layers control on the map (usually in the top-right corner of the map area).

Zooming and Panning

You can interact with the map just like any online map:

Zoom in — Scroll your mouse wheel up, pinch outward on a trackpad, or click the ”+” button to zoom in and see vehicles more closely.
Zoom out — Scroll your mouse wheel down, pinch inward, or click the ”-” button to see a wider area.
Pan — Click and drag the map to move around and explore different areas.
Reset view — If you get lost, look for a “fit all” or “reset” button that brings the map back to show all your vehicles.

Clicking on a Vehicle

Click on any vehicle marker on the map to see more details about that vehicle. A popup or side panel will appear showing information such as:

Vehicle ID and name
Assigned driver
Current duty status (Driving, On Duty, Off Duty, Sleeper Berth)
Current speed
Last known location and address
HOS clock summaries
Recent events or alerts

From this detail view, you can often navigate directly to the driver’s logs, vehicle profile, or other related pages.

Company, Group, and Fleet Selector

If you manage a large fleet or multiple groups, use the company/group selector to filter which vehicles appear on the map:

All vehicles — Show every vehicle in your company.
By group — Select a specific group (e.g., a terminal, region, or team) to show only the vehicles in that group.
By fleet — If your company is organized into fleets, choose one to narrow the view.

The selector is usually located at the top of the dashboard or above the map. Changing the selection updates both the map and the vehicle cards below.

Note: The filter you choose here applies across the dashboard — not just the map. Vehicle cards, status counts, and other dashboard elements will also reflect your selection.

Tips for Using the Map Effectively

Start your day with the map. A quick glance at the map each morning gives you an instant picture of where your fleet stands.
Watch for clusters. If you see vehicles clustered in one spot, it could mean a busy terminal, a traffic jam, or a loading facility. Zoom in to investigate.
Use the weather layer before dispatching. Before sending a driver on a new route, check the weather overlay to avoid sending them into severe conditions.
Combine map view with vehicle cards. The map and vehicle cards work together. Clicking a card highlights the vehicle on the map, and clicking a marker shows the card details.

Filtering and Search — Find specific vehicles and drivers quickly
Live Share — Share a vehicle’s live location with external parties
