Device Management

View, configure, and manage the ELD, GPS, and camera devices connected to your fleet vehicles.

Note: Device management requires the Fleet Admin role. If you do not see the options described below, contact your account administrator to verify your permissions.

RouteMate supports multiple types of hardware devices that connect to your vehicles and assets. The Device Management section gives you a centralized view of all devices in your fleet, their current status, and tools to configure and maintain them.

To see all ELD devices in your fleet:

  1. Navigate to Admin > Devices from the main menu.
  2. Select the ELD Devices tab.
  3. The device list shows each device’s serial number, assigned vehicle, firmware version, and current status.

ELD devices can have the following statuses:

StatusDescription
ActiveThe device is connected, functioning normally, and syncing data.
DeactivatedThe device has been taken out of service and is no longer recording data.
On HoldThe device is temporarily paused, typically during vehicle maintenance or reassignment.
DisconnectedThe device has lost connection to the vehicle or the server.
Pending ActivationThe device has been provisioned but has not yet been installed and activated.

Tip: Regularly check for devices with a Disconnected status. A disconnected ELD can cause compliance gaps in your driver logs.

To manage GPS tracking devices:

  1. Navigate to Admin > Devices.
  2. Select the GPS Devices tab.
  3. View the list of GPS devices, their assigned vehicles or assets, and connection status.

From this view you can:

  • Assign a GPS device to a vehicle or asset.
  • Unassign a GPS device when moving it to a different unit.
  • View the last known location and last sync time for each device.
  • Check signal quality and connectivity information.

If your fleet uses camera devices for driver safety and incident recording:

  1. Navigate to Admin > Devices.
  2. Select the Camera Devices tab.
  3. View camera devices, their assigned vehicles, and operational status.

From this view you can manage camera assignments and review device health information.

Note: Camera features require compatible hardware and the Camera module to be activated for your company.

To configure a device’s settings:

  1. Find the device in the appropriate device list (ELD, GPS, or Camera).
  2. Click on the device to open its detail page.
  3. Review and adjust configuration settings such as:
    • Sync frequency — How often the device sends data to the server.
    • Recording parameters — Settings specific to the device type.
    • Alert thresholds — Device-level alert settings.
  4. Click Save to apply the new configuration.

Note: Configuration changes are pushed to the device during the next sync cycle. The device must be powered on and connected for the changes to take effect.

Keeping your devices on the latest firmware ensures you have the newest features and bug fixes:

  1. Navigate to the device’s detail page.
  2. Check the Firmware Version field to see the currently installed version.
  3. If an update is available, you will see an Update Available indicator.
  4. Click Update Firmware to schedule the update.
  5. The update will be applied the next time the device syncs.

Tip: Schedule firmware updates during off-hours or periods of low fleet activity to minimize any disruption. Firmware updates typically take only a few minutes.

To add a new device to your fleet:

  1. Navigate to Admin > Devices.
  2. Click the Add Device button.
  3. Enter the device’s serial number and device type (ELD, GPS, or Camera).
  4. Assign the device to a vehicle or asset.
  5. Click Save to provision the device.

The device will appear with a Pending Activation status until it is physically installed in the vehicle and powers on for the first time.

Note: Follow the hardware installation guide provided with your device. Incorrect installation can lead to data gaps or device malfunction. Contact RouteMate support if you need assistance with installation.
