Alert Configuration
Set up alert rules to get notified about important events across your fleet, from geofence crossings to HOS violations and maintenance issues.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”Alerts keep you informed about what is happening in your fleet without having to constantly check the dashboard. You can configure RouteMate to send notifications when specific events occur, set thresholds that matter to your operation, and choose how you want to be notified. Well-configured alerts help you respond quickly to compliance issues, safety concerns, and operational problems.
Alert Categories
Section titled “Alert Categories”RouteMate organizes alerts into the following categories. Each category contains specific alert types that you can enable, disable, and customize.
Geofence Alerts
Section titled “Geofence Alerts”Get notified when vehicles interact with your geofence boundaries.

| Geofence Entry | Triggered when a vehicle enters a geofence. |
| Geofence Exit | Triggered when a vehicle leaves a geofence. |
| Geofence Entry and Exit | Triggered on both entry and exit events. |
You can apply geofence alerts to specific geofences or to all geofences at once.
Tip: Use entry alerts on customer locations to know when drivers arrive. Use exit alerts on restricted zones to be notified if a vehicle unexpectedly leaves a safe area.
Speed and Driving Safety Alerts
Section titled “Speed and Driving Safety Alerts”Monitor driving behavior to promote safety across your fleet.

|---|---|
| Excessive Speed | Triggered when a vehicle exceeds a speed threshold you define (for example, over 75 mph regardless of posted limit). |
| Real-Time Speeding | Triggered when a vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit by a configurable amount. |
| Harsh Acceleration | Triggered when a driver accelerates aggressively beyond normal parameters. |
| Harsh Braking | Triggered when a driver brakes suddenly or aggressively. |
| Harsh Cornering | Triggered when a driver takes a turn at excessive speed. |
Note: Harsh driving event detection depends on the capabilities of your ELD or GPS device. Not all devices support all driving behavior events.
HOS Violation Alerts
Section titled “HOS Violation Alerts”Stay ahead of Hours of Service issues before they become violations.

|---|---|
| Break Required | Triggered when a driver is approaching or has exceeded the 30-minute break requirement. |
| Driving Limit | Triggered when a driver is nearing or has exceeded the maximum driving hours (11 hours for property-carrying). |
| Shift Limit | Triggered when a driver is nearing or has exceeded the 14-hour on-duty window. |
| Cycle Limit | Triggered when a driver is approaching or has exceeded the 60/70-hour cycle limit. |
| Near-Violation Warning | Triggered before a violation actually occurs, giving you time to contact the driver and adjust plans. |
Tip: Enable near-violation warnings with enough lead time (for example, 30 minutes before a limit) so dispatchers can reroute or relieve drivers before an actual violation happens.
Maintenance and Vehicle Alerts
Section titled “Maintenance and Vehicle Alerts”Keep your vehicles in good condition and address issues promptly.

| Scheduled Maintenance Due | Triggered when a vehicle is approaching a scheduled maintenance interval based on mileage or time. |
| Repair Completed | Notification when a vehicle’s maintenance or repair has been marked as complete. |
| Fault Codes | Triggered when the ELD detects a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) from the vehicle’s engine. |
| DVIR Defects | Triggered when a driver submits a DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) with defects noted. |
| Low Fuel | Triggered when a vehicle’s fuel level drops below a configured threshold. |
Note: Fault code alerts can help you catch engine problems early, potentially preventing costly breakdowns on the road.
ELD and Device Alerts
Section titled “ELD and Device Alerts”Monitor the health and status of your ELD and GPS devices.

| ELD Unplugged | Triggered when an ELD device is disconnected from the vehicle’s diagnostic port. |
| Power Disconnect | Triggered when the ELD loses power, which may indicate a wiring issue or tampering. |
| Out of Sync | Triggered when an ELD device has not synced data with the server for an extended period. |
| Tamper Detection | Triggered when the system detects potential tampering with the ELD device. |
Tip: ELD unplugged and tamper alerts should be investigated promptly, as they can indicate compliance issues or device problems that need immediate attention.
Log Management Alerts
Section titled “Log Management Alerts”Stay informed about changes to driver logs.

| Log Edits | Triggered when a driver’s log is edited, either by the driver or a fleet manager. |
| Claimed Unidentified Driving | Triggered when unidentified driving events are claimed or assigned to a driver. |
Fuel Alerts
Section titled “Fuel Alerts”Monitor fuel-related events across your fleet.
Fuel alerts are tied to fuel level monitoring and help you track unexpected fuel usage or potential fuel theft.
Road Safety Alerts
Section titled “Road Safety Alerts”Get notified about road safety events that may affect your drivers and vehicles.
Configuring Alert Thresholds and Notification Methods
Section titled “Configuring Alert Thresholds and Notification Methods”To set up or modify alerts:
- Navigate to Admin > Alert Configuration from the main menu.
- Select the alert category you want to configure.
- For each alert type:
- Enable or disable the alert using the toggle switch.
- Set thresholds where applicable (for example, speed limit for excessive speed alerts, time before HOS violation for near-violation warnings).
- Choose notification methods:
- In-App Notification — Appears in the notification bell on the dashboard.
- Email — Sent to the configured email addresses.
- Push Notification — Sent to mobile devices (if supported).
- Select recipients — Choose which fleet managers receive the alert.
- Apply to groups — Optionally limit the alert to specific groups of drivers or vehicles.
- Click Save to apply your configuration.
Tip: Start with the most critical alerts (HOS violations, ELD disconnects, geofence entries on restricted zones) and add more as you refine your monitoring. Too many alerts at once can lead to alert fatigue.
Note: Changes to alert configuration take effect immediately. New alerts will begin firing as soon as you save.
