Navigating the Dashboard
Once you are logged in, the RouteMate web dashboard gives you a clear, organized workspace to manage your fleet. This page walks you through the main areas of the interface so you can find what you need quickly.
Sidebar Navigation Menu
Section titled “Sidebar Navigation Menu”The sidebar on the left side of the screen is your primary navigation tool. It lists all the major sections of the dashboard:
- Dashboard (Map and Vehicle Overview)
- Compliance
- Dispatch
- Units (Vehicles and Trailers)
- Safety Hub
- Reports
- Geofence
- Fuel
- Maintenance
- Admin (if you have admin permissions)
- …and more, depending on your company’s active features.
The sidebar is collapsible. Click the collapse icon (usually at the top of the sidebar) to minimize it to just icons, giving you more room for the main content area. Click again to expand it back.
Tip: If you do not see a section you expect, it may be because your role does not include that feature, or your company has not activated it. Check with your admin.
Main Content Area
Section titled “Main Content Area”The large central area of the screen displays whatever section you have selected from the sidebar. This is where you will:
- View the live map and vehicle cards
- Review driver logs and compliance data
- Manage loads on the dispatch board
- Configure settings and admin options
- Run and view reports
The content area updates as you navigate between sections. Most views include tables, charts, maps, or detail panels depending on what you are looking at.
Top Bar
Section titled “Top Bar”Across the top of the dashboard, you will find:
- Notifications bell — Click to see recent alerts, system messages, and important updates. A badge shows how many unread notifications you have.
- Company/Group selector — If your account has access to multiple companies or groups, use this dropdown to switch between them. This filters the entire dashboard to show only the selected company or group.
Note: The company/group selector is especially useful if you manage multiple terminals or divisions within your organization.
Footer Bar
Section titled “Footer Bar”At the bottom of the dashboard, you will find several useful controls:
- Settings — Quick access to your account and dashboard settings.
- Admin access — If you have admin permissions, this provides a shortcut to the admin section.
- Theme toggle — Switch between light and dark mode to suit your preference or working conditions.
- User menu — Access your profile, change your password, or log out.
Breadcrumb Navigation
Section titled “Breadcrumb Navigation”As you move deeper into a section (for example, from Compliance to a specific driver’s log), a breadcrumb trail appears near the top of the content area. It looks something like:
Dashboard > Compliance > Driver Logs > John Smith > Feb 27, 2026
You can click on any part of the breadcrumb to jump back to that level. This is a fast way to move up without using the sidebar.
Quick Actions
Section titled “Quick Actions”RouteMate provides quick action buttons so you can perform common tasks without navigating through menus. Depending on your role and permissions, you may see options such as:
- Add Driver — Create a new driver record
- Add Vehicle — Register a new vehicle in the system
- Add Asset — Add a trailer or other tracked asset
- Add Geofence — Set up a new virtual boundary on the map
- Add Alert — Create a new alert rule
- Create Load — Start a new dispatch load
These quick actions are typically available from the dashboard home screen or from a ”+” button in the top area.
Tip: Quick actions save you time during busy days. If you frequently add drivers or create loads, look for these shortcuts first instead of navigating through the full menu.
Widget Manager
Section titled “Widget Manager”The dashboard home screen supports customizable widgets that let you arrange the information that matters most to you. Widgets can include:
- Fleet status summary
- Compliance overview
- HOS violation counts
- Vehicle location map
- Recent alerts
- Fuel summary
- And more
To customize your layout:
- Look for the Widget Manager option on the dashboard home screen (often a gear or “Customize” button).
- Toggle widgets on or off based on what you want to see.
- Drag and drop widgets to rearrange them in your preferred order.
- Save your layout. Your preferences are remembered the next time you log in.
Note: Widget availability may vary depending on your role and which features are active for your company.
