Road-Facing & Driver-Facing Camera Installation Guide

This guide covers installation of the RouteMate AI Dashcam in both Road-Facing and Driver-Facing configurations. The procedure is the same; only the camera orientation differs.

Note: The SIM card is pre-installed and pre-configured — the camera is ready for setup out of the box. After mounting, contact your customer service representative with the camera serial number; the support team will complete the connection to the vehicle in the RouteMate platform.

Unboxing — What’s in the Box

  • Camera (Road-Facing or Driver-Facing variant)
  • Connection cable (camera-to-Power Box harness)
  • Mounting equipment:
    • Mounting plate with 3M adhesive backing
    • Allen key
    • Screw and nut

Before You Install — Connection Cable

Attention: When connecting the cable (whether bench-testing in the office or installing in the vehicle), pay close attention to the direction of the port and plug it in carefully. Forcing the connector in the wrong orientation can damage or burn out both the port and the device.

  1. Connect the Power Box to the Dashcam using the supplied cable, observing connector alignment.
  2. Connect the Power Box to the vehicle battery or another suitable power source.

Step 1 — Stick the Camera Mount to the Windshield

  1. Measure and mark the middle of the windshield to identify the optimal camera location.
  2. Clean and dry the windshield — ensure it is free of grease and dust.
  3. Remove the 3M sticker and apply it to the surface of the camera holder that will contact the windshield.
  4. Carefully apply the camera holder to the marked spot. Press firmly to ensure a strong bond.

Note: Make sure the “gears” on the holder joint are in the proper position so that the camera can be properly mounted in the next step. The gear side should be on the left side of the camera holder joint.

Step 2 — Mount the Camera to the Holder

  1. Take the dashcam and the supplied screw.
  2. Connect the camera to the holder, then thread the screw through the lock.
  3. Once the screw lock is in place, tighten the connection carefully while keeping adjustment range available, until final position is set.

Positioning

Attention: Place each camera in the correct orientation:

  • The Road-Facing camera must face the road.
  • The Driver-Facing camera must face the cabin.
  • Horizontally: install the device around the center of the windshield.
  • Vertically: adjust to get the best coverage of the view space in front of the camera.

When the camera is in the ideal position, tighten the screw with the supplied tool and verify that the holder and camera are stable.

Step 3 — Wire the Camera to the Vehicle

The camera comes with the cable already attached. You only need to connect the other end of the cable to the Splitter Y Cable at the OBD port.

  1. Carefully route the cable from the camera to the Splitter Y Cable, keeping it away from anything that could obstruct it inside the cabin.
  2. Plug the camera cable into the Splitter Y Cable.
  3. If an ELD device is already installed, plug it into the other branch of the Splitter Y Cable.

Different truck models require different harnesses to connect to the OBD port. Choose the matching cable:

Step 4 — Testing

After the first use, review the recording quality to determine whether the camera needs repositioning. If so, repeat the relevant steps above to adjust.
