App Permissions
RouteMate needs a few permissions on your device to work properly. This page explains what each permission is for, how to check them, and what happens if one is missing.
Why Permissions Are Needed
Section titled “Why Permissions Are Needed”Mobile operating systems (iOS and Android) require apps to ask for your permission before accessing certain features like your location, camera, or Bluetooth. RouteMate uses these features for essential functions like recording your position on logs, connecting to the ELD, and uploading photos of documents and defects.
Required Permissions
Section titled “Required Permissions”Location
Section titled “Location”What it is for: Recording your geographic position on your daily logs and enabling the Bluetooth connection to your ELD device.
Without Location permission, the app cannot:
- Record your location when you change duty status
- Connect to or discover your ELD device via Bluetooth
- Show your position on the map
Note: On Android, both Location and Bluetooth permissions are needed for ELD connectivity. On iOS, Location and Bluetooth are separate permissions as well. Make sure both are granted.
Bluetooth
Section titled “Bluetooth”What it is for: Communicating with your ELD device.
Without Bluetooth permission, the app cannot:
- Scan for nearby ELD devices
- Establish or maintain a connection to the ELD
- Receive vehicle telemetry data (speed, odometer, engine hours)
Camera
Section titled “Camera”What it is for: Taking photos for documents, DVIR defect reports, maintenance requests, and dispatch items.
Without Camera permission, the app cannot:
- Take photos when uploading documents or fuel receipts
- Capture images of vehicle defects during inspections
- Photograph maintenance issues when reporting repairs
Photo Library / Gallery
Section titled “Photo Library / Gallery”What it is for: Selecting existing photos from your device to upload.
Without Photo Library permission, the app cannot:
- Let you choose an existing photo when uploading a document
- Attach saved images to DVIR reports, maintenance items, or dispatch records
How to Check and Update Permissions
Section titled “How to Check and Update Permissions”On iOS
Section titled “On iOS”- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap RouteMate in the app list.
- You will see a list of permissions (Location, Bluetooth, Camera, Photos).
- Make sure each one is set to Allow or the appropriate access level.
- For Location, select While Using the App or Always (depending on your preference).
- For Photos, select All Photos for full access.
On Android
Section titled “On Android”- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Tap Apps (or Applications).
- Find and tap RouteMate.
- Tap Permissions.
- You will see a list of permissions. Tap each one to change its setting.
- For Location, select Allow only while using the app or Allow all the time.
- For Camera, Bluetooth, and Files, select Allow.
Tip: If you are unsure where to find these settings on your specific device, try searching for “RouteMate” in your device’s Settings search bar. This will usually take you directly to the app’s permission settings.
What Happens If You Deny a Permission
Section titled “What Happens If You Deny a Permission”If you deny a permission, the specific features that depend on it will not work. Here is a summary:
| Permission | What Stops Working |
|---|---|
| Location | Log position recording, ELD Bluetooth scanning, map location |
| Bluetooth | ELD device connection and telemetry |
| Camera | Taking new photos for documents, DVIR, and maintenance |
| Photo Library | Selecting existing photos for uploads |
The rest of the app will continue to function normally. You will not be locked out entirely — only the affected features will be unavailable.
Note: If you previously denied a permission and the app asks for it again, you may see a message saying “Go to Settings.” This means the app can no longer show the permission prompt directly, and you need to enable it manually using the steps above.
