Managing Co-Drivers
If you share a vehicle with another driver, RouteMate’s Co-Driver feature lets you manage that partnership directly from the app. Both drivers maintain their own separate logs while operating the same vehicle.
What Is a Co-Driver?
Section titled “What Is a Co-Driver?”A co-driver is a second driver assigned to the same vehicle as you. This is common in team driving operations where two drivers take turns behind the wheel to cover longer distances. When a co-driver is active, the ELD tracks each driver’s duty status independently, so your Hours of Service records stay accurate.
Accessing the Co-Driver Screen
Section titled “Accessing the Co-Driver Screen”Tap the Co-Driver icon in the bottom navigation bar to open the co-driver management screen. You will see three tabs:
Active Co-Drivers Tab
Section titled “Active Co-Drivers Tab”This tab shows drivers who are currently paired with you on the same vehicle.
- You can see each co-driver’s name and status.
- To remove a co-driver, tap on their entry and confirm the removal. This unpairs them from your vehicle assignment.
Pending Requests Tab
Section titled “Pending Requests Tab”This tab shows incoming co-driver requests from other drivers who want to pair with you.
- Tap Accept to approve the request and add them as your co-driver.
- Tap Reject to decline the request.
Note: When you have pending requests waiting for your response, a notification badge will appear on the Co-Driver tab in the bottom navigation bar so you do not miss them.
Sent Requests Tab
Section titled “Sent Requests Tab”This tab shows requests you have sent to other drivers that have not been responded to yet.
- You can cancel a pending request if you change your mind before the other driver responds.
How to Add a Co-Driver
Section titled “How to Add a Co-Driver”- Open the Co-Driver screen from the bottom navigation.
- Tap the Add button.
- Search for the driver by name. Type their name and select them from the search results.
- Tap Send Request.
- The other driver will receive the request on their device. Once they accept, you will both be shown as active co-drivers.
Tip: Coordinate with your co-driver ahead of time so they know to check their Pending Requests tab and accept your request before you start your shift together.
Important Things to Know
Section titled “Important Things to Know”- Both drivers maintain separate logs. Your driving time, on-duty time, and off-duty time are tracked independently, even though you share the same vehicle and ELD.
- Only one driver can be in Driving status at a time. When you are driving, your co-driver should be in a non-driving status (such as Sleeper Berth or Off Duty).
- Removing a co-driver does not affect either driver’s log history. Past records remain intact.
