DVIR Forms

DVIR Forms are the inspection templates that define what drivers check during their pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. The DVIR Forms page lets you view and manage the form templates available to your fleet.

What Are DVIR Forms?

A DVIR form is a checklist template that outlines all the vehicle and trailer components a driver must inspect before and after each trip. When a driver starts an inspection on the RouteMate mobile app, they work through the items defined in the assigned DVIR form, marking each component as satisfactory or reporting any defects.

DVIR forms ensure that inspections are:

Consistent — Every driver checks the same items in the same order.
Complete — No critical components are skipped or forgotten.
Compliant — The inspection covers all items required by federal and state regulations.

Viewing Available DVIR Form Templates

How to view your DVIR forms:

Navigate to Maintenance and then DVIR Forms.
You will see a list of all inspection form templates available in your account.
Each form entry shows:
- Form name — A descriptive name for the template (e.g., “Standard Truck Inspection,” “Trailer-Only Inspection”).
- Vehicle type — The type of vehicle or equipment the form is designed for.
- Number of inspection items — How many components are included in the checklist.
- Status — Whether the form is active and available for drivers to use.

Click on any form to view its full list of inspection items and configuration details.

Tip: Review your DVIR forms periodically to make sure they cover all relevant components for your fleet’s vehicle types. As you add new equipment or vehicle models, your inspection forms may need to be updated.

How Forms Are Used by Drivers on the Mobile App

Understanding how DVIR forms work from the driver’s perspective helps you set up effective inspection templates.

The driver inspection process:

Starting an inspection — When a driver begins their shift or ends a trip, the RouteMate mobile app prompts them to complete a DVIR. The app loads the appropriate form based on the vehicle they are assigned to.
Working through the checklist — The driver goes through each item on the form, physically inspecting the corresponding component on the vehicle (and trailer, if attached). For each item, they mark it as:
- Satisfactory — The component is in good working condition.
- Defective — The component has an issue that needs to be reported.
Reporting defects — If the driver marks an item as defective, they provide a description of the defect and can attach photos for documentation.
Submitting the report — Once all items are reviewed, the driver signs and submits the DVIR. The completed report is immediately available for your review on the DVIR Reports page in the web dashboard.

Note: Drivers complete DVIRs on the RouteMate mobile app. The web dashboard is where you view the submitted reports and manage the form templates. You cannot complete an inspection from the web dashboard.
