Live Share
Live Share lets you share a vehicle’s real-time location with someone outside of RouteMate — no login required. It is a quick, secure way to give shippers, receivers, brokers, or anyone else visibility into where a vehicle is and when it will arrive.
What Live Share Does
Section titled “What Live Share Does”When you generate a Live Share link, it creates a temporary web page that shows:
- The vehicle’s current location on a map
- Real-time position updates as the vehicle moves
- Basic vehicle identification
The person you share the link with can open it in any web browser. They do not need a RouteMate account or any special software.
Note: Live Share only shows the vehicle’s location. It does not expose driver names, HOS data, speed, or any other fleet details. Your operational data stays private.
When to Use Live Share
Section titled “When to Use Live Share”Live Share is useful in many common scenarios:
- Shippers want to know when a truck will arrive for pickup.
- Receivers are waiting for a delivery and want to track its progress.
- Brokers need to provide location updates to their customers.
- Customers have asked for real-time tracking of their shipment.
- Partners or other parties need temporary visibility into a vehicle’s location.
Instead of fielding phone calls with “Where is my truck?” you can simply send a link.
How to Generate a Live Share Link
Section titled “How to Generate a Live Share Link”- Find the vehicle you want to share on the dashboard map or in the vehicle cards list.
- Click on the vehicle to open its detail view.
- Look for the Live Share button or option (it may appear as a share icon or a “Share Location” link).
- Click it to generate a unique Live Share link.
- Copy the link to your clipboard.
- Send the link to the recipient via email, text message, chat, or any other communication method.
The recipient can click the link immediately and start tracking the vehicle’s location in their browser.
Tip: You can generate Live Share links for multiple vehicles at the same time. If a broker needs tracking for several loads, send them separate links for each vehicle.
How Long the Link Stays Active
Section titled “How Long the Link Stays Active”Live Share links are temporary. They remain active for a limited period of time, after which the link expires and the shared page will no longer show location data.
The exact duration depends on your company’s configuration, but typical active periods range from several hours to a few days. Once the link expires:
- The recipient will see a message that the link is no longer active.
- No further location data is shared.
- You can generate a new link at any time if you need to share again.
Note: If a Live Share link expires before the delivery is complete, simply generate a new one and send it to the recipient. There is no limit to how many links you can create.
Tips for Using Live Share
Section titled “Tips for Using Live Share”- Send the link proactively. Do not wait for the “Where is my truck?” call. Send the link as soon as the vehicle is en route.
- Include context in your message. When you send the link, mention the load number, expected arrival time, or vehicle ID so the recipient knows what they are tracking.
- Use it for high-value or time-sensitive loads. Live Share is especially valuable when a delivery window is tight or the customer is waiting.
- No sensitive data is exposed. You can share links freely without worrying about revealing fleet operations, driver information, or compliance data.
