Signing Your Inspection

After you have completed your vehicle inspection and reported any defects (or confirmed there are none), the final step is to review and sign your DVIR. Your signature makes it an official record.

Before you sign, take a moment to review everything:

  1. Confirm that the vehicle information (Vehicle ID, VIN) is correct.
  2. Verify that the odometer reading is accurate.
  3. Check that your location is correct.
  4. Review the inspection type (Pre-Trip or Post-Trip).
  5. Look over the list of defects — make sure every issue you found is included, and that no incorrect items are listed.
  6. Verify that any photos you took are attached to the correct defects.

Tip: It only takes a few seconds to review, and catching an error now is much easier than correcting it later. Make sure your report accurately reflects the condition of the vehicle.

Once you are satisfied that everything is correct:

  1. Tap the Sign button at the bottom of the inspection screen.
  2. A signature pad will appear on your screen.
  3. Use your finger or stylus to sign your name on the pad, just as you would sign on paper.
  4. If you are not happy with your signature, you can clear the pad and try again.
  5. Tap Confirm or Done to submit your signature.

Your signature is attached to the inspection, making it a legally valid DVIR.

After signing, the inspection report is automatically saved. You will see a confirmation that the DVIR has been submitted successfully.

The completed inspection is now:

  • Stored on your device and synced to the RouteMate server
  • Visible to your fleet manager on the web dashboard
  • Available in your inspection history for future reference

Note: Make sure you have a data connection (cellular or Wi-Fi) so the inspection can sync to the server. If you are offline, the app will save it locally and upload it when a connection is available.

If you started an inspection but need to cancel it (for example, you selected the wrong inspection type or the wrong vehicle):

  1. Look for the Discard or Cancel option on the inspection screen.
  2. Tap it, and a confirmation dialog will appear asking if you are sure.
  3. Confirm to discard the inspection.

Note: Discarding an inspection permanently deletes it. This action cannot be undone. Only discard if you genuinely need to start over or made a significant error in setting up the inspection.

After signing, your completed DVIR can be found in several places:

  • DVIR list in the app — Open the Menu and tap DVIR to see all your past inspections. The most recent one will appear at the top.
  • Daily log — The inspection event is recorded as part of your daily log for that day.
  • Fleet manager dashboard — Your carrier can view and review all driver inspections from the web portal.

During a roadside inspection, a DOT officer may ask to see your most recent Pre-Trip and Post-Trip DVIRs. You can pull them up quickly from the DVIR list in the app.

Tip: Make a habit of completing and signing your DVIRs consistently. A complete inspection history shows professionalism and helps protect you during audits and inspections.
